Combine Two Different Objects
My last class at Emily Carr was "Illustration for Book Covers" in 1988 with Nick Bantock. Bantock was a professional illustrator with an impressive ability to draw and write projects (check out "Griffen and Sabine") but somehow I never did well in his class. I could draw, but the level of ability with materials required for the projects assigned other than ink and graphite was simply out of my league. Half the class quit within a few weeks, leaving only the extremely gifted or the too proud to quit (like me) to finish.
This was one of the few in-class assignments I did well on – "Go find two disparate items in the area and combine them in one drawing".
