Apocalypse Cat
I took classes from Martin Guderna at Emily Carr sometime in 1986. This was a different style of teaching, and I was emboldened to try working at larger sizes. (The graphite series were done on 19" x 22" size drawing paper). Martin was a wonderful instructor, very encouraging no matter what you wanted to draw or what medium you wanted to use. Because paint was so expensive, most of the pieces I did in Martin's classes were graphite or India ink.
I thought for some time that the building imagery I repeat so often was due to Carel Moisevitch's influence, that is, until I ran across this ancient photograph. This painting was done in university art classes circa 1971 and clearly shows early skyline and building aspects. My friend Lois has the original. Sorry it's so blurry.
