Co-workers

Circa late 70s. I was a graphic artist at the Vancouver School Board  Audio Visual Services (which later became Media Services) for 20 years before transferring to Printing Services where I worked for the next 13. Film, filmstrips and educational models were the mainstay of the old AV department. Film reels and strips were replaced by the VHS format which was in turn replaced by DVD. The entire department was eventually disbanded some time after 2000, rendered obsolete by the mercurial rise of the internet.

Debbie and Ana, the film winders. Their entire day was spent re-winding returned reels on the machine pictured here, splicing damaged film, and then re-filing the canisters. To break up the monotony, they would talk all day. The were a lively pair, full of mischief and fun. I once listened to  quite a lengthy debate over whose favourite colour was the nicest.
