Women in Music

1985. Connie Kuhns (then Connie Smith) who hosted RubyMusic at Co-op Radio told me Kinesis was looking for cover artwork for an upcoming Women in Music edition. This was the first of three drawings I submitted. Kinesis was a Canadian national newspaper that focused on women and women's issues. Vancouver-based, it published from 1974 to 2001.
I used ink and oil pastel, then shot a greyscale halftone with the line camera at work and last, added the text by hand with white paint. (Kinesis did not have the budget to print in full colour, any artwork had to be greyscale or B&W). This was my favourite of the three, but they didn't run it.
