QuadraTails, Part Three cont again
What kind of music did they play at the Quadra? Since Wednesday nights were generally slow there was no DJ until Heather or Suzann arrived so I'd start things off, always with the same song, Amanda Lear's "Run Baby Run". I liked listening to the tune and her solemn deep voice in the empty club while I set up. Plus it was the easiest album to find in the stack. There were many others besides Amanda Lear but those that stand out in memory are: Gloria Gainor's drag queen anthem "I Will Survive", Thelma Houston's "Don't Leave Me This Way", Dead or Alive's "You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)", The Trammps' "Disco Inferno", Laura Branigan's guaranteed-to-get-them-on-the-dance-floor "Gloria", Kim Carnes' "Bette Davis Eyes", Vicky Sue Robinson's "Turn the Beat Around", Patti LaBelle's "New Attitude", Queen's "Another One Bites the Dust" (which Heather liked to put on the sound system after vanquishing somebody she was mad at). "FunkyTown" by Lipps Inc. and "Born to be Alive" by Patrick Hernandez were played so much they'd have to tie for the Quadra anthem. Grace Jones' "La Vie en Rose" was always played at closing time – three and a half minutes to finish your drink, find your coat, find your girlfriend and head home. And of course, there was Donna Summer's incomparable "I Feel Love", IMO the hands-down best disco song ever recorded in the history of music. Find it on YouTube, crank it up and re-live your misspent youth. The blog software won't let me type the exact YT address so choose this one: Donna Summer - I Feel Love 1977 (High Quality)
