QuadraTails
On July 6, 1979, Yaletown became home to the first lesbian-owned and lesbian-run bar in Vancouver. The Quadra was located at 1055 Homer Street on top of a postal sorting station, and depending on what source you ask, was open for only 18 months, or from 1979 to 1984. I'd say it closed its doors for the last time at the Homer location sometime in 1982.
QuadraTails was a series of cartoons I did to amuse the staff at the Quadra. I worked as second bartender Wednesday and Saturday nights for about a year (while still working my day job at VSB and let me tell you, Thursday mornings were a HARD get up) The protagonist cat is me, of course – I actually owned a white leather jacket – and although the adventures are mostly made up, they are based on what I observed over many late nights. So thank you again to Ronald Searle, who continued to inspire me with his writing and drawing style, and here begins "QuadraTails, Part One: Dress for Success"
