As mentioned earlier, the Quadra attracted a broad swath of the gay women's community. The shall we say, 'larger and somewhat masculine' element was often there, referred to rather unkindly as bulldykes (is that still a term)? They presented a rough exterior but inside they could be some of the kindest and most soft-hearted women you could meet. (Just don't try stealing their girlfriend).
