Checkers With Grandma

I liked the idea of a cutthroat grandma giving no quarter in a game of checkers. You shouldn't let a kid win at games anyway. Bad preparation for real life. (My real grandma and I never played checkers. We watched Ed Sullivan).

And this is my real grandma, doing what she loved best: petit point. Petit Point, for those who have never heard of it, is stitching pictures in silk thread on fine gauze according to a pattern chart. That's about the best I can describe this archaic and almost extinct craft.

She never drew that I knew of, but she was a master at petit point, painting figurines and tooled leather. She entered her work across Canada in the summers. Many thanks to my sister in law for saving and sending me Gramma's awards (see below)
