Holiday in Jamaica

Holiday in Jamaica

It was 1985. My friend Robin and I went to Jamaica to stay at Miss Ruby's Guesthouse – a hilarious collection of shacks in the town of Negril, Jamaica. It was the first time I had ever travelled outside of North America, and the first time I was to experience, first hand, glaring economic disparities between whites and blacks. We generally stayed out of the all-inclusive hotels but would sometimes drop in for Happy Hour.
I'd packed pens, paper and ink and drew our adventures in Negril. The cats here were what morphed out of the Ronald Searle studies.
