Crosshatch Fox

After studying Roy Peterson's cartoons  and realizing I was at best clumsy with a brush but good with a technical pen (he used both) I did a number of drawings in cross-hatch. The two main brands of technical pens then were  Rapidograph Koh-i-Noor and Staedtler Marsmatic. Of the two, Staedtler was – and still is in my opinion  -- the best quality. I haven't been able to find any replacements in stores but they are still available online. I have – and use – those ancient pens to this day, keeping them in working order, babying and coaxing them along like frail old Cuban cars.

At left are my stalwart 40+ year old Staedtlers of varying nib size, and at right the white Koh-i-Noor pens that you can still buy at Opus these days. The Koh-i-Noor type at the far right is pretty much impossible to find now unless you search for vintage pens online.
