Another Oldie

Circa 1967? I'm thinking Summer of Love because of the dove in the last panel. (that's not something I would have thought of at an earlier age) . I can tell by the blotting that this was done with a fountain pen on some kind of junk pulp paper. It's surprising to me how much drawing was done on the worst kind of material! The other thing that surprises me about this particular set is there was no preliminary pencil drawing. You almost always get a bit of residual pencil lines left somewhere no matter how carefully you erase. Plus the junk paper would not have held together.

I'd always been a rather serious child but was beginning to find a sense of humor. The funny part here is the audience and the facial expressions. I can't remember what publications I would have had access to in order to look at cartoons but I remember Dagwood and Blondie, Bringing Up Father. Li'l Abner, Jiggs, and Beetle Bailey, to name a few. These all had facial expressions and short storylines that influenced what I drew.
